5 Icebreakers for St.Patty’s Day

Posted by | March 01, 2015 | Dating | No Comments

St. Patrick’s Day is one of those rare holidays that give you the excuse to go out and socialize as opposed to being cooped up with people you already know. But if you’re looking to meet someone special, you need to know how to take advantage of March 17th and all the festivities it can bring.

Go on a Team Scavenger Hunt

Looking to meet new people or get to know those cute acquaintances better? Host or find a scavenger hunt that’s running on St. Patrick’s Day. (Meetup.com is a great place to look!) If throwing one yourself, be sure to make everything from the clues to the answers to the prizes particular to Ireland. Either way, entering a team-based scavenger hunt will force you to interact and scheme with people who you don’t know well, quickly building up camaraderie while you work together to win whatever pot of gold is at the end of that rainbow.

Head for a Trivia Night

Look, St. Patrick’s Day is supposedly all about drinking. And while plenty of pubs partake in green beer for the festivities, they also handle the spike in customers by hosting a holiday-themed trivia night. So brush up on your Irish history and lore and mosey yourself into a trivia team that’s down one player! In the end, it doesn’t matter if you stink at the game. You’ll all be too drunk to care.

Brush Up on Your Pick-up Lines

If you find yourself at a bar or pub that isn’t putting on a trivia night, at least work on your St. Patrick Day pick-up lines. (You do have them, don’t you?) It’s best not to waste a night filled with attractive, inebriated men. While some pick-ups are groan-worthy (“Why don’t you come catch a leprechaun with me. Maybe together we’ll get lucky!”), you can also go for something that gives a bit more of a giggle.

Give Out Green Carnations

Relive middle school by buying a dozen green carnations and giving them out either at work or to strangers who need a pick-me-up. In order to not freak people out, just smile and say, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” Most people will respond favorably and potentially even strike up a conversation with you. And who knows? Maybe that cute guy at the office will finally start to notice you more.

Pinch People

Kind of kidding, kind of not. It all depends on the context. While running up and pinching strangers on the street would be incredibly obnoxious (and likely get you punched in the face), going playfully for the haunches at a gay nightclub could end with amusing results. You only get one chance a year to use holidays as an excuse to pinch people. Don’t waste it!
